- Football coaching
What do coaching sessions consist of?After stretching, volunteers run warm up activities such as bulldog and tag. Technical training such as shooting drills and penalty shoots outs take up the majority of the session. Most coaching sessions end with a 30 minute match.
- Swimming Coaching
Volunteers coach swimming at a local pool to children aged 9-14. The majority of children in Sri Lanka do not have the opportunity to learn how to swim.
SL Volunteers are currently piloting a project running swimming lessons for children and adults with special needs.
- Netball Coaching
After stretching and warming up, the volunteers run drills with the netball team. These can vary including basic ball skills and attacking and defense drills. Most of the sessions end with a 30 minute game.
- Cricket Coaching
The cricket coaching project was established in September 2012 by two of our previous volunteers Krishna Kotecha and Charles Neil. Cricket is a national sport in Sri Lanka and very popular with the students.
After stretching and warm up games volunteers run skill sessions on bowling, batting and fielding techniques. Most coaching sessions end with a short match.
