Overview
Education is becoming an increasingly important issue in Vietnam. Traditionally, agriculture has provided jobs for the masses, but this sector’s growth has plummeted. Nowadays, international commercial trade governs the Vietnamese economy, especially in major cities such as Hanoi. The demand for skilled labour is ever increasing. However, there is a huge difference between the level of education available to the rich and poor. As a result the poor are forced to take low paid jobs with little job security, which only reinforces the cycle of poverty.
The ability to speak a good level of English is an attribute that can help drive these young people out of poverty. We work with educational institutions who could never afford the wages of a native English speaking teacher; on average £13/per hour.
Our English Teaching Volunteer Programme in Vietnam allows you to help improve the job prospects of these young people in the hope for a better life. We work with young people of all ages. Whether you’re practising the alphabet with a small group of toddlers or holding a conversational English session with a class of 40 teenagers, your creativity and enthusiasm can make a difference.
Arrival airport: Noi Bai International Airport, Hanoi (airport code HAN)
Volunteer role: Teaching English at a local school, kindergarten, children’s resource centre or university
Working hours: Flexible; Mon-Fri up to 6-8 hours a day
Transport to the project: Varies; walking, cycling or taking the bus
Requirements: Minimum age 18, good level of written & spoken English, Criminal Background Check
