What does the placement entail?
  • 1 or 2 day training workshop – including but not limited to: Psychology within a Sri Lankan context & Psychological healing aspects of issues pertaining to the Tsunami, civil conflict, post-war reconciliation, creative therapy and PTSD
  • Session on Meditation and Mindfulness
  • Introductory Tour and Volunteering Placement at The National Institute of Mental Health. Volunteers will assist psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists in the occupational therapy, learning disability and acute Units.
  • 1 day conference for psychology, social work and occupational students and graduates from both the UK and Sri Lanka.
  • Open invitation to Samutthàna’s seminars in both Sri Lanka and the UK.

Who is this placement for?

This placement has been designed to give people hoping to work in occupational therapy, clinical psychology or social work access to relevant work experience that will help them in their applications for careers in their chosen fields. If you are studying or are a graduate of Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy or are simply interested in mental health then you are welcome to apply for this placement. Please note however, that places are limited.
